Lagos Prince, identified as Prince Wale Jimoh has been arrested alongside seven others during initiation rites of the Eiye Confraternity at Jakande Roundabout, Small Kuramo, Lekki, Lagos.
The father of Jimoh is said to be the traditional ruler of a community in that area.
They were arrested by anti-robbery squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos.
The names of the seven others were given as; Frank Mafiana (32), Robert Williams (34), Koko Etim (25), Ibrahim Ogunkoya (21), Stephen Anoh (27), Adekunle Mayegun (25), and Moris Gordian (27).
According to report, the cult members had organised a party at a bar owned by their gang leader, Mafiana, and decided to use the occasion to initiate their new member, Ogunkoya. While they were at it, security officials, who got a tip-off, stormed the place and apprehended them.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “When we got there, we met the new member in their midst. He was blindfolded and stark naked. We recovered a gun, cutlass and a bottle of gin which contained ground pepper from the scene.”
Confessing to their crime, a member of the gang, Williams said Jimoh, the Lagos Prince had called them to the bar that Ogunkoya wanted to be a member, saying, “Our leader was initially reluctant, but when he saw Jimoh with a polythene bag containing a cutlass and a gun, he agreed.” On his part, Jimoh said he is not the biological son of the king as the king married his mother and adopted him because he liked him.
He explained that Ogunkoya is his friend and had told him he wanted to join their cult group.
Police arrests Lagos prince and seven other cultist “I invited him for the party. It was when he was feeling tipsy that we removed his clothes to initiate him,” he said. Jimoh also confessed that he brought the gun and cutlass, which he stole from a shrine where Ogun worshippers in his community performed rites, adding that torture during initiation was meant to harden the minds of members.
However, Ogunkoya denied showing any interest in the group, saying that he had been threatened with a gun.
“I have never met them in my life until that day. I never knew they were cultists until they attacked and pushed me into a pit and started beating me around 9pm. They put a gun to my head and said I must join them or else they would kill me,” he stated. Just recently, the Anambra state police command arrested one Ifechukwu Atunanya, a 16-year-old secondary school dropout after she was allegedly caught having sex with over 52 young men inside a bush in what looked like an initiation ceremony.
